Expected Kindergarten Skills

Next year's expectations for Kindergarten involve a more rigorous curriculum due to the implementation of the Common Core State Standards.  We will be doing more work that is similar to what 1st Grade has been doing. Due to the limited time we have during the day, we do not take a nap in the Blue Pod.  Knowing the following skills will give your child a great start to Kindergarten!
  • Know Personal Information (Name, Birthday, Address, Phone Number)
  • Model Name and Correct Letter Formation in Writing
  • Follow Simple One Step Directions
  • Hygiene Habits (Bathroom Manners, Blowing their nose, etc)
  • Tying Shoes
  • Recite their Alphabet
  • Letters and Their Sounds
  • Recognize Numbers 1-20
  • Count to 20
  • Recognize and Name Shapes and Colors
  • Know How to Hold a Pencil Correctly
  • Fine Motor Skills ( Cutting and Using Glue Properly)
  • Independence (Feeding their selves, social skills with other adults and children)
